CLEARY’S Boxing Gym have started a crowdfunding campaign as they attempt to raise funds to relocate and refurbish a new premises at the site of the former Whitnash Community Hall.
The Gym hopes to raise £20,000 and has produced some of Leamington’s finest fighters over the last 15 years including Lewis Williams who won gold at the recent Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The plan is to move into and refurbish the former Whitnash Community Hall with a suitable floor needed for members to train and disability access wash rooms required as well as the clearing of the outside rear of the building to make way for bicycle storage.
However, the installation of new flooring would cost approximately £15,000 with a further £3,000 spent on architectural and planning consultancy.
And installing disability access wash rooms would cost an additional £1,200 whilst site clearance and new bike racks would cost £800 which comes to a total of approximately £20,000.
The club believe moving to a new location will improve accessibility to locals should they wish to participate in sessions that improves both their physical and mental health.
And the new premises would allow Cleary’s to offer sessions to more people which can be tailored to meet the needs of a specific individual whether it be health, participation or performance related.
Cleary’s want to champion participation in sport for all demographics, at any level, for all of their members with the new location easier to access by foot, bike, car and bus.
And the club remain committed to opening the Gym to everyone in the local community, including to those who use the facilities for the social and togetherness aspect which is at the centre of Cleary’s.
They are also developing a 15-year club sustainability strategy which includes plans to produce an annual event calendar, promote further fundraising events and put on educational and demonstration days.
