Cleary's duo take on the best of British

CLEARY’S stars Jake and Josh Finch represented an all-star team against a British select side on Sunday in Worcester.

Boxers from around the country as far as Wales and Scotland took on the very best from the Midlands.

Josh was pulled in with less than 24 hours’ notice and took on the experienced Ram Sher (Priory Park ABC) and was beaten on a close split decision which could have gone either way.

Meanwhile, Jake took on No.7 ranked English boxer Jordan Purkiss (St Mary’s ABC).

It was a tough match for Jake but from the off he looked to control the bout and was much the stronger boxer.

With a few jolting jabs, he opened up to the body and on two occasions he forced Purkiss to spit his gum shield to the floor.

As the bout neared its end, it looked as though Jake was going to stop the ranked fighter. Purkiss held on but lost by a unanimous decision.

This season Jake has boxed five of the top-ten boxers in the country and is now getting to grips with the level he is at.

Meanwhile, rising star Lewis Williams was awarded Central England Senior Elite Boxer of the Season.
