BOXING: CLEARYS Boxing Gym is gearing up for one of its biggest weekends of the season as big guns Lewis Williams, Morgan Ansell and Jake Finch all take to the ring.
Ansell and Finch will contest respective national finals while Williams will represent Team GB as he takes on old rival Natty Nywenya.
The trio – who are all teenagers – are part of a close knit Clearys team that has endured a remarkable 12months.
Whitnash-based Williams will be the first to fight as he faces Nywenya tonight (Thursday) at Sheffield Institute for Sport.
The 18-year-old, who stands at six foot tall, has developed from a novice to a polished senior fighter – this will be the first of many challenges ahead for the promising youngster.
Meanwhile Morgan Ansell will face a tough bout against England team mate Savannah Stubbly in Bristol on Sunday.
Pocket rocket Ansell will make the trip down the M5 to face her experienced international opponent in a fight that will prove a stern test for the talented 16-year-old.
To round of the non-stop schedule, Jake Finch will fight to land his third title in just six months when facing Jake Locke in the National Elite Finals.
Locke, last season’s Merseyside and Cheshire Elite ABA Champion, will provide Jake with a tough test.
But, with belief in his ability, the Clearys team have pushed Finch to reach the top of his respective level.
Finch’s bout will take place on Monday.
Coach Edwin Cleary said: “The youngsters seem to develop much quicker now with the role models we have.
“Training alongside elite boxers seems to bring the novices on at speed.
“This squad is growing and believe in what we teach. It doesn’t get much better than this.
“We’re only a small club, but we have very big ambitions and the best is yet to come.”
