KALAN Niyarepola took four wickets and scored quick runs with the bat as Leamington CC claimed a four-wicket win against Stourbridge.

Niyarepola took the crucial wicket of Syed Bukhari and claimed three further wickets before blasting 22 runs from 12 balls with the bat at Arlington Avenue.

Leamington bowled Stourbridge out for 155 after Bukhari recorded a half-century as Jason Jakeman chipped in with three wickets.

And steady runs from Leamington top, middle and lower order saw the home side reach the required total in 31.5 overs with four wickets in hand.

The result means Leamington sit fourth in the Birmingham Premier League Premier Division Two table.

Stourbridge won the toss and elected to bat as Leamington made early inroads with the ball.

Tom Warner (1-23) removed Stourbridge opener Jujhar Johal (4) in the fifth over while Archie Walker (2-17) took two early scalps to leave the visitors on 39-3.

However, Bukhari (73) and Bilal Hussain (34) shared a 76-run fourth-wicket stand to boost Stourbridge’s total.

Jakeman (3-31) struck to break up the partnership before Niyarepola (4-54) trapped Seth Rogerson (2) LBW to take his first wicket of the match.

And the pair ripped through Stourbridge’s lower order to claim the remaining wickets while Niyarepola also trapped Bukhari LBW following a 93-ball knock.

Leamington recovered from the early loss of Harrison Smith (13) in reply as Jacob Sargeant (24) and Jonathan Wigley (29) enjoyed a solid second-wicket stand.

Both batters fell in quick succession and Jakeman (3) followed soon after to leave the home side on 84-4 at the end of the 21st over.

Will Richardson (29 not out) and Chris Calcott (33) built up the home side’s total before Niyarepola (22 not out) hit four boundaries in an entertaining 11-ball knock.

Niyarepola smashed a six to secure victory for Leamington in 31.5 overs with four wickets to spare.

Leamington are next in action Worfield on Saturday, July 18 with play to begin at 12pm(midday) at Davenport Park.
