Dominant Kenilworth Ladies defeat Rugby 63-0

RUGBY UNION: KENILWORTH Ladies continued their unbeaten run this season with a convincing 63-0 win at Rugby Lionesses, writes Caroline Spence.

The visitors started strongly, scoring the first of 11 tries in opening two minutes when some impressive handling in the back line was finished off by speedy winger Sophie Henry.

Kenilworth’s second followed shortly after as Rugby’s defence were unable to deal with Beth Woodward’s pace.

Henry then bagged her second to make it 17-0 thanks to a successful conversion from prop Rebecca Lewis.

Kenilworth’s fourth try came on 22 minutes after Aisling Straver spotted a gap in the defence to touch down.

It wasn’t long before Kenilworth scored their fifth when inside centre Felicity Baldwin added her name to the score sheet as the half ended 34-0.

Though Lionesses looked threatening in the second half, they proved no match for Kenilworth.

Woodward bagged her brace to make it 39-0 before Christie Foster added a second.

Full back Helena Allison-Moore then took Kenilworth into the Lionesses’ 22, offloading to Baldwin just short of the try line for Kenilworth’s ninth score.

Skilful handling and superb pace from Howles brought the score to 58-0, but the final and 11th try was scored by captain Rebecca Lane.

The scrum half brought the match to a close as Kenilworth secured an impressive 63-0 bonus point victory to keep them top of National Challenge Midlands 1, two points clear of Five Ways Old Edwardians.
