Double success for Kenilworth

CRICKET: KENILWORTH’S first team travelled to Fillongley on Saturday looking to extend their unbeaten run in Division One of the Warwickshire Cricket League.

After winning the toss and inviting the home side to bat first, Fillongley slumped to 18/3 as Steve Rhodes removed two of the top three batsmen.

Tregonning joined opener Carty as the pair started to rebuild their side’s innings.

Tregonning was dismissed for exactly 50 as Carty was joined by number six batsman Bates.




Together they got their side to a decent total – Bates made 55 while Carty fell just short of his century after being dismissed for 90.

Fillongley were all out for 226 in the 46th over.


Rhodes proved to be pick of the Kenilworth bowlers, taking six wickets for just 40 runs from ten overs.

Kenilworth openers Adie Sellar and Pete Magafas made a strong start to Kenilworth’s pursuit of 227.

The pair went on post 87 in 16 overs for the first wicket with Magafas making 38 while Sellar went on make 57.

Chris Prophet added 19 before Tom Booker took over.

Booker went on to steer his side towards their target with a match-winning innings of 64*.

Kenilworth finished on 227/6 in the 46th over to pick up 20 league points.

2ND XI

GRIFF and Coton were welcomed to Kenilworth on Saturday for a Warwickshire Division Seven fixture.

Asked to bat first, the visitors lost early wickets as experienced seamer Pete Alty took two wickets for 16 runs from 12 accurate overs.

Bourne – the visitors number three – was holding his side’s innings together, he went on to make 54.

But with only Ulisham (32) making any other score of note, Griff were dismissed for an under par score of 159 all out in the 47th over.

Openers Mark Stranks and Dan Horner put on 28 for the first wicket in reply before Horner fell for six runs.

Stranks was then joined by Henry Curran at the crease, the pair went on to bat their side towards the 160 needed to win with both recording half centuries.

Kenilworth ended on 161/1 in just 31 overs.
