Droobers march on in action-packed weekend

OCTAVIAN Droobers battled on all fronts in a full programme of action last weekend.

Sue Bicknell (W75) was victorious in the women’s Hyper Vet 3.3km course at Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire, completing the event in 41:51 – while Mike Hampton (M70) ranked sixth in the men’s Ultra Vet 4.2km course with a 42:45 time.

Over at the Burbage Village Urban in Leicestershire, Chris McCartney (M50, 32:53) narrowly beat teammate Kin Wai Lee (M21, 33:39) to win the Long 4.8km course.

David Lawson (M55, 36:57) finished fourth, and Harriet Lawson (W21, 41:59) was the fastest-female in eighth.

Meanwhile, Joanne Leigh (W50, 32:17) ranked fifth on the Medium 3.1km course, and Hilary May (W65, 29:48) was victorious on the Short 1.8km course.

Elsewhere, Chris McCartney (M50, 63:11) found all 28 control points to place sixth in the 8.1km Grangewood event, with Anne Straube (W45, 68:56) proudly assuming her place as the best woman on the day.

Finally, there was plenty of Droobers representation at the National Trust Stowe Gardens near Buckingham.

Will Gardner (M21, 27:02) as ever was fastest in the Brown 6.2km event, closely followed by Duncan Birtwistle (M21, 29:33) in second.

Bruce Bryant (M60, 29:28) led the Green 4.1km course, with Janet Richardson (W70, 44:51) the top Octavian Droober in the Short Green 3.3km race – placing sixth.

Sian Gardner (W60) completed the round-up, finishing fourth in the Light Green 3.8km course in a 38:55 time.
