WARWICKSHIRE endurance athlete Paddy Doyle completed eight kayak challenges on the River Leam to take his individual tally to 858 records.
Doyle, waded down with 35lbs of expedition instructor kit, set eight kayak river distances as he attempts to become the first GB endurance athlete to achieve 1,000 fitness challenges covering 11 different sporting categories.
The Warwickshire athlete achieved the following mileage and times: 2.5 miles (38 minutes 32 seconds), 3.5 miles (50 mins 18 secs), 4.5 miles (1 hour 2 mins 59 secs), 5.5 miles (1 hr 17 mins 52 secs), 6.5 miles (1 hr 30 mins 19 secs), 7 miles (1 hr 38 mins 12 secs), 7.5 miles (1 hr 45 mins 5 secs) and 8 miles (1 hr 52 mins 28 secs).
Doyle said: “The support team kept an eye on my paddling speed which helped me to maintain a good pace, the light showers and wind kept me cool to every finish point, however it was hard paddling with the extra weight of 35 lbs expedition kit, there was also walkers at the bankside giving their support which helped me greatly.”
Doyle believes serving in the Parachute Regiment and being an ex-Army/RAF reservist provided him with the discipline to push himself further.
