Finch lands second national title days before Clearys appearance in Leamington tonight

BOXING: TEENAGER Jake Finch landed his second national title in less than fourth months when beating Jake Fallon of Whitley ABC.

Finch, who has been training at Clearys ABC for four years, was contesting his first senior fight against Fallon – it was also Finch’s first bout without a headguard.

But that did little to deter the Leamington lad who had to deal with Fallon using his height and range advantage.

The 18-year-old grew into the fight and soon found his timing to win by decision against a fighter with a strong record.

There’s little time for Finch to enjoy his win though. This weekend he’ll be in action at Clearys’ home show at Leamington’s Real Tennis centre against the Army’s 52kg champion.

Meanwhile Finch hopes to use his latest win to spur him onto better things in the future.

Speaking to The Observer, he said: “Training at Clearys is great, I don’t think it can get better.

“I train on the Team GB Discovery programme at the moment, hopefully if that goes well I can reach the level which Lewis and Morgan are at now.

“The Olympics are on my mind too.”
