LEAMINGTON were beaten 2-0 away at play-off chasing Alfreton Town at the Brakes slumped to a fourth successive defeat without scoring.
Second-half goals from Bailey Hobson and Matt Rhead extended Leamington’s winless run to six matches at the Impact Arena.
The result means the Brakes remain in the National League North relegation zone in 21st place, one point and one place from safety.
Paul Holleran’s side more than matches their opponents in the early exchanges as Ted Cann touched Hobson’s long range strike over the bar before Dan Turner shot inches wide at the other end.
Leamington were then forced to clear the ball off their own goalline after Cann allowed a shot to slip through his grasp before he dove at full stretch to keep out Rhead’s header.
The visitors went close soon after as Devon Kelly-Evans saw his free-kick from 25-yards out well-saved by Alfreton goalkeeper George Willis.
And Leamington enjoyed their best spell at the start of the second period as they forced a number of corners and free-kicks which ended with Theo Streete glancing a header just past the post.
However, Alfreton broke the deadlock on 56 minutes when Hobson’s low drive found the net after Leamington failed to deal with Adam Lund’s long throw.
And the home side doubled their lead on 75 minutes when Rhead rose highest at the far post to meet substitute Dayle Southwell’s cross as he powered a header back across goal into the corner.
The Brakes were second best thereafter as Dominic Smith saw a third Alfreton goal ruled out for offside before Cann made a superb acrobatic save to keep out Conor Branson’s effort.
Leamington are next in action at home to Hereford on Friday, April 7 with kick-off at 3pm at the Your Co-Op Community Stadium.
