LEAMINGTON have fended off interest from a National League club to retain the services of defender Dan Meredith next season.

Meredith will remain at the Your Co-Op Community Stadium after agreeing a new deal to enter his sixth season with the club.

The 25-year-old initially joined the Brakes on loan from West Bromwich Albion in early 2020 before later completing a permanent move to Leamington.

And Meredith has opted to remain with the Brakes despite attracting interest from an unnamed National League club.

Brakes boss, Paul Holleran said: “Dan has probably been one of the best right backs in the National League North over the last few seasons.

“He has been a model of consistency in every season for us – even last season, when his campaign was disrupted by injury, and yet again, despite other clubs coming in for him, he has shown what it means to him to play for this football club and these fans, by choosing to stay with us, and we could not be more delighted.

“He is important to our team and to me, and is a great lad to work with.”

Meredith added: “I’m very happy to sign for another season.

“After a slightly frustrating season because of a few injuries I picked up it was a proud moment for myself to make 200 appearances for the club.

“We’re in a great place to kick on after the record points tally last season, and seeing the new teams in the league this year it’s going to be another great challenge for us that I’m looking forward to.”
