PAUL Holleran joked he might start playing George Ward up front after the defender scored a stunning overhead kick in Leamington’s 1-1 draw against Scarborough Athletic.

Ward levelled the game in sensational style on 65 minutes after Luca Colville opened the scoring for the visitors at the Your Co-op Community Stadium.

And Brakes boss Holleran joked he might utilise Ward up front in the future.

Holleran said: “It was probably our toughest game of the season, Scarborough have probably just gone up another notch from last year.

“We came back into the game, we didn’t have the quality we had in the first half, but with the set play, one of the key things you’ve got to do is keep the ball alive, so we’ve kept it alive, and it’s a wonderful finish from George – again. I think I might have to start playing him up front.

“Being honest I think we’ll be the happier team with the draw, but I think they’ll be glad to come away from here with something because what has been good this year so far is that the boys are making it a really tough place to come to.

“There’s been a couple of performances here recently where we’ve scored some goals, we’ve had a lot of the ball, we’ve got on top in games. We’ve had to dig in [against Scarborough] because these have got a bit of everything.

“One of the reasons we’ve worked so hard to get into this league is that we want to test ourselves against clubs like Scarborough, and yet again we’ve done alright. Some of the young boys have done alright and you hope with the experience of these games we will get better and that’s what we’ll endeavour to do.”

Scarborough broke the deadlock on 55 minutes when Colville finished at the second attempt after Alex Wiles saw his initial effort blocked.

However, the Brakes equalised 10 minutes later as Jack Edwards kept the ball alive at the back post and Ward sent a stunning overhead kick past Ryan Whitley from eight-yards out.

Leamington are next in action against South Shields on Saturday, October 19 with kick-off at 3pm at Mariners Park.
