RACING Club Warwick conceded a late goal to drop points in a 1-1 draw away at AFC Wulfrunians as the Racers lost ground on their promotion rivals.

Cal Templeton’s second-half goal from the bench looked to have secured a vital three points for Warwick only for Curtis Cocking to strike one minute from time at Castlecroft Stadium.

The result means Racing sit fourth in the Midland Football League Premier Division table, two points behind Lye Town in second who have a game in hand.

Racers goalkeeper Dan Crane pulled off a fine save to keep the scores level in the first half as he kept out Jake Webb’s curled effort from the edge of the penalty area.

The visitors responded when Callum Rudd’s speculative effort went narrowly over the crossbar before Ben Kendrick suffered a nasty head injury following an aerial collision which resulted in a broken nose for the Warwick defender.

However, Kendrick’s replacement broke the deadlock on 66 minutes as Templeton flicked the ball over Wulfrunians goalkeeper Jamie Bostock’s head from Rudd’s long throw.

And Warwick almost sealed the points from a similar situation later in the half as Connor Mort’s effort was pushed away from another Rudd throw.

However, Wulfrunians snatched a point late on when Curtis Cocking tapped home at the far post after Jack Rowley headed a free-kick across the face of goal.

Racing are next in action away at Stone Old Alleynians on Saturday, April 1 with kick-off at 3pm at Kings Park.
