LEAMINGTON beat Halesowen Town on penalties to advance to the third round of the Birmingham Senior Cup.

The Brakes triumphed 6-5 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 draw in regulation time at the Your Co-Op Community Stadium.

Leamington boss Paul Holleran made seven changes from the side which suffered defeat against Kidderminster Harriers last weekend.

This included debuts for academy prospects Tom Connell, Charlie Beddows and Harry Lloyd while 29-year-old Australian striker Robbie Paratore also made his Brakes bow.

Lloyd almost enjoyed a dream debut only for his shot to hit the post on the half-hour mark.

However, Leamington eventually broke the deadlock on 38 minutes when Tim Berridge found the net.

The visitors equalised one minute after half time as Ryan Fletcher drew the away side level.

The Brakes substituted goalkeeper Callum Hawkins for young debutant Jacob Humphries with 10 minutes left to play as the game went to penalties.

Both teams scored their first five penalties before Ted Rowe found the bottom corner to put Leamington ahead in sudden death.

And Martin Riley hit the crossbar with Halesowen’s sixth attempt to send the Brakes into the next round of the competition.

Leamington are next in action against Rochdale in the FA Trophy on Saturday, December 7 with kick-off at 3pm at the Your Co-Op Community Stadium.
