LEAMINGTON surrendered an early lead as the Brakes ended the season with a 2-1 defeat against Tamworth in the Birmingham Senior Cup final.

The Brakes led through Tyrone Lewthwaite’s goal only for Oliver Lynch and Dan Creaney to turn the game in Tamworth’s favour at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium.

The defeat brings an end to a difficult campaign for the Brakes who finished bottom of the National League North table.

Scott Easterlow’s side made their 15th appearance in the Senior Cup final and first since 2022.

National League opponents Tamworth went into the final as defending champions and reached the showpiece for the 10th time.

The Lambs thought they had taken the lead when Lynch swept a shot into the net only for the assistant to raise his flag for offside.

However, the Brakes broke the deadlock on 18 minutes as Owen Farmer delivered a low ball into the box from the left and Lewthwaite produced an emphatic finish with the outside of his boot.

Tamworth equalised on 26 minutes when Lynch lifted a shot over a stranded Eddie Brearey after the Lambs pounced on a poor kick from the Brakes goalkeeper.

The game remained level at the break before Creaney stabbed the ball home at the second attempt from close range on 65 minutes to complete the turnaround.

Brearey made a fine reaction save to tip a shot onto the post and keep the Brakes in the contest but Leamington could not force a shootout despite applying plenty of pressure late on.
