LEAMINGTON came from behind to claim a first away win in almost a year with a 2-1 victory at play-off hopefuls AFC Telford United.
The Brakes ended a six-game losing run in the league despite Remi Walker’s early goal putting the home side ahead at New Bucks Head.
However, recent arrival Ben Blythe drew Leamington level before the break while Frank Tattum completed the turnaround in the second half.
Leamington recorded just their fifth league win of the season and remain bottom of the National League North table, 13 points from safety.
Brakes boss Chris Knott said: “It feels good. I didn’t realise it had been that long to be fair.
“I’m just pleased for everybody involved with the club to be honest, obviously it’s been a slog lately hasn’t it?
“We probably haven’t got what we deserved at times – not necessarily away from home but at home.
“To a man you look at the work ethic and the effort the lads have put in and they’ve got their just rewards with two decent decent finishes and they defended unbelievably well.”
The Brakes went close early on as Owen Farmer latched onto Adam Walker’s ball in-behind the Telford defence only for Josh Gracey to make the save.
However, Telford broke the deadlock on 11 minutes when Walker picked out the top-right corner from 20-yards when afforded time and space to shoot.
The visitors responded with another chance as Gracey again denied Farmer after good work from I-Lani Edwards.
Gracey denied Farmer twice more in the first half with the latter unable to find the net with a header and a strike from a tight angle.
Leamington equalised on 37 minutes when Blythe reacted quickest to poke a loose ball over the line following a corner from the right.
Brakes goalkeeper Eddie Brearey then kept out Walker’s free-kick before Matty Stenson sent a powerful header over the crossbar.
However, the visitors turned the game on its head on 66 minutes when Birmingham City loanee Tattum poked home Blythe’s cross from close range shortly after his introduction from the bench.
Leamington are next in action against AFC Fylde on Saturday, March 7 with kick-off at 3pm at the Your Co-op Community Stadium.
