LEAMINGTON saw their winless run on the road stretch to seven matches following a 2-1 defeat at Brackley Town on Boxing Day.

A late goal from substitute Tim Berridge proved in vain as Shane Byrne’s penalty and Connor Hall’s header condemned the Brakes to defeat at St James Park.

That came after Cally Stewart netted a sensational hat-trick in a convincing 4-1 victory against high-flying Curzon Ashton at the Your Co-Op Community Stadium in their last game before Christmas.

The results mean Leamington sit 18th in the National League North table, eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Brackley broke the deadlock on 33 minutes when Byrne scored from the spot after the referee penalised George Ward for handball in the box.

And the home side doubled their lead in first-half injury time as Hall headed in a cross from the left at the back post from close range.

Substitute Berridge scored shortly after his introduction with 12 minutes left to play as he looped a header into the right corner of the goal from Jiah Medrano’s cross.

Leamington are next in action against Hereford on Wednesday, January 1 with kick-off at 3pm at the Your Co-Op Community Stadium.
