AN OWN goal brought an end to Leamington’s more than nine-hour goal drought after the Brakes drew 1-1 with Curzon Ashton on the final day of the season.

Defender Timi Sobowale put through his own net on 76 minutes at Tameside Stadium as Leamington scored their first goal in seven matches.

However, Adam Barton levelled the game for the hosts in injury time with the home side still in the hunt for a play-off spot.

The draw means Leamington finish the National League North season in 16th place while Curzon Ashton missed out on a play-off place on goal difference.

After a goalless first period, the Brakes broke the deadlock on 76 minutes as Sobowale turned Dan Meredith’s cross from the right into his own net.

The goal was Leamington’s first in the league since a 2-0 victory against South Shields on March 22.

However, the Brakes were denied the points in injury time when Barton looped a header beyond Callum Hawkins into the corner of the goal.

Leamington finished the season on 55 points – a new club record in the National League North.
