LEAMINGTON suffered a 4-0 defeat at Boston United in FA Cup second round qualifying following Jack Lane’s bizarre early dismissal.

With the game goalless, Boston won a penalty after Theo Streete handled the ball on the line only for the referee to send off Lane in what appeared to be a case of mistaken identity.

Martin Woods duly dispatched the resulting penalty before former Brakes striker Kelsey Mooney struck soon after with a Jack Edwards own goal and Jimmy Knowles effort completing the scoring at the Jakemans Community Stadium.

The game turned on 11 minutes when Callum Hawkins made a sensational save to tip the ball onto the crossbar before a follow-up effort hit Streete on the arm as he attempted to block the shot.

Confusion reigned after Lane saw red before Woods fired the resulting spot kick into the right corner of the goal to give the National League North side the lead.

And Boston doubled their advantage minutes later when the ball broke kindly to Mooney who squeezed a shot under Hawkins from close range.

The home side extended their lead late in the second half when Edwards turned a near post cross into the roof of his own net.

Boston added some gloss to the scoreline when Knowles provided a simple finish after good work from Finley Thorndike.

Leamington are next in action at home to Bromsgrove Sporting on Saturday, September 23 with kick-off at 3pm at the Your Co-Op Community Stadium.
