CALLUM Smith has become Leamington FC’s first new signing of the summer as the goalkeeper arrives from Walsall Wood.

Smith joins the Brakes from a Walsall side who won the Midland Football League Premier Division title last season with the division’s best defence.

The 21-year-old played a big part in Walsall’s success and hopes he can thrive at two steps above next season.

Smith said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be signing for Leamington, a massive club that I’m over the moon to have joined.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to play for a manager that I have a lot of respect for in football, and I can’t wait to get started and show the fans what I can do.”

Brakes boss Paul Holleran added: “We are really looking forward to working with Callum.

“He is one of the brightest young goalkeepers in the area, and he will have had an excellent grounding at Walsall Wood with Harry Harris.

“He has done what a lot of young players don’t do, in dropping into the lower leagues to gain experience.

“He has followed a similar path to some of the youngsters we have signed, who have gone on to better things, we hope that Callum has a happy and successful time at the club.”

And a trio of players have committed to the club next season as midfielder Adam Walker and defenders Dan Meredith and Jack Lane have agreed to remain at Leamington for the 2023/24 campaign.
