LEAMINGTON saw their weekend fixture against AFC Fylde abandoned after 56 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch.

The Brakes trailed 4-0 at the time of the abandonment although the home side’s fourth goal owed much to the conditions at Mill Farm.

The two teams will replay the fixture at a later date.

Paul Holleran’s side made the worst possible start as Luca Thomas lifted the ball over Rogan Ravenhill from close range after just four minutes.

And the home side doubled their lead on 12 minutes when Max Taylor powered in a header from a corner from the right to leave the visitors with a mountain to climb.

Rain fell throughout the first period with standing water visible in places although the game resumed after the interval.

And Fylde struck just four minutes into the second period when substitute Ryan Colclough’s driven effort went under Ravenhill and into the net.

Coloclough struck again on 56 minutes when he nipped in to score after Rob Evans’ saw his attempted pass back to goalkeeper Ravenhill roll to a standstill in the turf.

Moments later, referee Joseph Morrell called a halt to the fixture and led both teams from the field.

The Fylde groundstaff attempted to clear the water on the pitch but with rain still lashing down for a 10-minute period the game was abandoned.

Leamington are next in action against Hereford on Saturday, October 4 with kick-off at 3pm at the Your Co-Op Community Stadium.
