SUBSTITUTES Will Shorrock and Jiah Medrano both struck in the second half as Leamington stretched their unbeaten run to five matches with a 2-0 win at Berkhamsted.

Shorrock broke the deadlock just before the hour mark before fellow sub Medrano sealed the points 12 minutes from time at Broadwater.

And the result means Leamington are up to second in the Southern League Premier Central table, two points behind leaders Needham Market who have four games in-hand.

The Brakes made a bright start as Henry Landers forced Jamie Head into an early save with his legs before Matt Bateman fired narrowly over the bar at the other end.

Paul Holleran’s side almost took the lead on the stroke of half time when Ewan Williams headed against the post from close range.

The visitors remained in the ascendancy after the break before Shorrock opened the scoring with his first goal for the club on 59 minutes with a low effort under Head from a tight angle.

And just moments after entering the fray, Medrano nodded home Shorrock’s cross from the right on 78 minutes to secure the points.

Berkhamsted almost reduced the deficit late on only for Sami Bessadi’s effort to come back off the post and into the arms of Callum Hawkins.

Leamington are next in action at home to Coalville Town on Saturday, January 13 with kick-off at 3pm at the Your Co-Op Community Stadium.
