AARON Opoku’s penalty helped Racing Club Warwick secure their first league win of the season with a 2-1 victory against Coleshill Town.

Opoku’s spot kick doubled Warwick’s lead after an own goal put the visitors ahead at Pack Meadow.

A goal from Ben Usher-Shipway halved the deficit early in the second half but the Racers held on to secure their first win of the new campaign.

The result means Warwick sit fifth in the Northern Premier League Midlands table.

Warwick broke the deadlock on 14 minutes when Callum Coyle delivered a dangerous free-kick into the box from the right and Bassit Mandey inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

And the Racers won a penalty five minutes before half time when Coleshill goalkeeper Cameron Belford brought down Opoku in the box.

Opoku picked himself up to send Belford the wrong way from the penalty spot with a confident finish into the left corner of the goal.

However, Coleshill responded on 51 minutes as Usher-Shipway curled a shot into the bottom right corner from just outside the penalty area.

Racing Club Warwick are next in action against Lye Town in the FA Cup on Friday, August 15 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Sports Ground.
