FOOTBALL - Racers advance in FA Vase as fine start continues

DYLAN Parker’s early goal was enough to send 10-man Racing Club Warwick into the next round of the FA Vase with a 1-0 away win at Bilston Town.

The Racers took the lead after just five minutes when Parker took the ball in his stride before placing an effort into the far corner past Bilston goalkeeper Brandon Hillback from 12-yards out from Cal Templeton’s fine through ball.

Toby Scott then saw a long range shot deflected over as Jamal Clark headed narrowly wide from the resulting corner.

However, Racing were reduced to 10-men when Desean Martin was shown a straight red card for what the referee believed to be a two-footed tackle despite the player slipping as he went in for the ball.

Despite this setback, Warwick were resolute in the second period to limit their opponents to half chances and booked their place in the second qualifying round of the competition where they will play Alsager Town.

The Racers followed up the win with a hard fought draw against Darlaston as a late Josh Parsons penalty rescued a point for the visitors.
