FOOTBALL - Racers fly up to third after back-to-back wins over festive period

RACING Club Warwick soared up to third in the Midland Football League Premier Division table after taking maximum points over the festive period.

Warwick hammered Uttoxeter Town 5-0 in front of more than 400 supporters at Townsend Meadow in their first game of the New Year.

That came after the Racers won 3-1 at Studley in their final game of 2022 with Connor Mort, Josh Parsons and Kory Burke all on target at Studley Sports Centre.

The results mean Warwick are now just three points behind second-placed Shifnal Town.

And Warwick opened the scoring after just 12 minutes against Uttoxeter when Burke side-footed home from Mort’s excellent cross.

The Racers had to wait until the second period to put the game to bed when Mort fired home from the penalty spot after Parsons was fouled in the box by Casey Coleman.

Just minutes later, James Hancocks further extended Warwick’s lead with a superb effort that went in off the post.

Racing’s top scorer Parsons finished well to add some gloss to the scoreline before centre-back Callum Rudd scored his first Racers goal to complete the scoring.

Warwick are next in action away at Shifnal on Saturday, January 7 with kick-off at 2pm at the AcoustafoamĀ Stadium.
