FOOTBALL - Racers held by Lichfield

RACING Club Warwick saw their four-game winning run come to a halt after the Racers were held to a 1-1 draw by fellow promotion hopefuls Lichfield City.

Charlie Jones put Warwick ahead only for Sam Fitzgerald to equalise for 10-man Lichfield in the second half at the Trade Tyre Community Stadium.

The result means the Racers sit fourth in the Midland Football League Premier Division, just two points behind Shifnal Town in second.

Lichfield’s Fitzgerald hit the post for the home side before a fantastic one-two between Callum Scott and Cam Ebbutt allowed the former to slip in Josh Parsons who saw his shot well-saved.

However, Jones was on hand to slam home the rebound on 23 minutes to give the Racers the lead.

And Lichfield were then reduced to 10-men when Luke Childs saw red for a poor challenge on Scott with just over 20 minutes left to play.

Parsons went close to doubling Warwick’s lead with a snap shot only for Lichfield to equalise on 74 minutes when Fitzgerald rifled home from 20-yards out.

Warwick are next in action at home to Stone Old Alleynians on Saturday, January 21 with kick-off at 3pm at Townsend Meadow.
