FOOTBALL - Racers win again as Burke at the double in Studley win

KORY Burke scored twice as Racing Club Warwick won a six-goal thriller 4-2 against Studley to maintain their promotion push.

Burke scored inside 60 seconds before he doubled his tally later in the first half as Archie Hamp and substitute Connor Mort made sure of the points in the second period at Townsend Meadow.

The result means Racing remain second in the Midland Football League Premier Division table, seven points behind leaders Walsall Wood who have two games in hand.

And Warwick made the perfect start when Burke prodded the ball home from close range after Harry White’s initial header was pushed into his path by Studley goalkeeper Brendan Bunn.

Burke doubled Racing’s lead on 15 minutes with a stunning move from a free-kick as James Hancocks slipped in Cameron Ebbutt who cleverly laid the ball off to Burke who duly fired the ball home.

And the Racers almost added to their lead before the break as White came within inches of opening his Warwick account from Hamp’s cross.

Racing picked up where they left off after the break as Burke shot over from Callum Scott’s cross as he tried to complete his hat-trick.

However, Hamp eventually extended Warwick’s lead when his powerful shot found the net on 54 minutes to score his seventh goal of the season.

And Mort wrapped up the win with a fine finish from 20-yards out before Studley threatened to stage a late comeback as Leo Wood and Dan Carter both struck in vain for the visitors.

Warwick are next in action at home to bottom of the table Market Drayton Town on Saturday, March 4 with kick-off at 3pm at Townsend Meadow.
