NEWLY-PROMOTED Racing Club Warwick suffered a 2-1 defeat at Boldmere St. Michaels on the opening day of the season.

Goals from Sean Devlin and Daniel Gyasi put the home side in command at the Boldmere Community Stadium as Connor Taylor netted late on for the Racers.

And the result means Warwick sit 14th in the Northern Premier League Midlands after one match.

The Racers made the worst possible start as Boldmere took the lead on three minutes when Devlin fired a low shot past Sam Lomax from 25-yards out via the aid of the post.

And Lomax then made a crucial save to keep the visitors in the contest as he denied Boldmere’s Liam Murphy after he raced in on goal.

Lomax then spared his own blushes after losing possession inside his own six-yard box as he denied Murphy again.

From the resulting corner, Boldmere doubled their lead with the ball played to the edge of the penalty area to Gyasi who drilled a low shot past Lomax from just inside the box on 19 minutes.

Boldmere’s second goal sparked Warwick into life as Taylor curled a sensational effort from 25-yards out against the crossbar.

And Racing felt they should have had a penalty when a Warwick player pounced on a short backpass, touched the ball beyond the keeper and went down under a challenge from the keeper only for the referee to wave away the appeals.

Gyasi almost sealed the points for Boldmere before the break when he jinked his way into the box only to smash a shot against the underside of the crossbar as the ball bounced to safety.

The Racers should have reduced the deficit after the break when a flowing counter attack saw Taylor burst through on goal only for the latter to shoot straight at Boldmere goalkeeper Jonathan Brown.

Warwick eventually pulled a goal back with 12 minutes left to play as Taylor turned the ball home from close range after Kelvin Langmead chested the ball towards the back post.

Racing Club Warwick host Coleshill Town on Tuesday, August 13 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Townsend Meadow.
