RACING Club Warwick suffered a derby defeat at Rugby Town after winning a seven-goal thriller against Sporting Khalsa.

The Racers succumbed to Mikey Taylor’s goal in a 1-0 defeat against Rugby in a Warwickshire derby at Butlin Road.

That came after Racing produced a stunning comeback from two goals down at half time to beat Sporting Khalsa 4-3 at Townsend Meadow.

The results mean Warwick sit 13th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table.

Racing dominated the opening half-hour only against Rugby only for the home side to score the only goal on 16 minutes when Taylor’s shot rolled out of the reach of former Valley goalkeeper Sam Lomax.

Against Khalsa, the visitors took the lead on 18 minutes when former Warwick man Simeon Cobourne fired a shot into the top right corner from 15-yards out.

However, Racing drew level just two minutes later as Greg Mills turned home Ryan Nesbitt’s cross from the right into an empty net from close range.

Khalsa reclaimed the lead four minutes before half time when Cobourne reacted quickest to turn home a loose ball after Lomax could only parry an initial shot from the right.

And the visitors took a two-goal lead into the break when Kyle Barnett could only a turn a cross from the right into his own net at the near post.

The Racers reduced the deficit two minutes into the second period as Mills volleyed the ball into the roof of the net from virtually on the goalline after the Khalsa goalkeeper failed to deal with a cross from the right.

And Warwick equalised on 74 minutes when Mills found Connor Taylor in space down the right-hand side of the penalty area and the latter found the net from a tight angle.

The hosts completed a remarkable turnaround six minutes from time as Ben Edmunds showed great composure to control Josh McKenzie’s pass and finish past the keeper when one-on-one.

Racing Club Warwick are next in action against Quorn on Saturday, August 31 with kick-off at 3pm at Townsend Meadow.
