FOOTBALL - Racing Club Warwick beaten late on at promotion-chasing Worcester City

RACING Club Warwick conceded a late goal to suffer a 2-1 defeat away at promotion-chasing Worcester City as the Racers’ indifferent form continued.

Danny Murphy drew Racing level after Cal Templeton had put through his own net to hand Worcester the initiative before Demetri Brown struck a late winner at the County Sports Ground.

And the result means Warwick sit 14th in the Midland Football League Premier Division table, 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

The visitors handed debuts to Toby Scott and Dylan Parker from the bench in the second period with the duo impressing despite the final result.

In a first half devoid of chances, Warwick captain Templeton inadvertently poked the ball into his own net after he failed to deal with a scuffed cross-shot.

However, the Racers drew level when Murphy fired home from the edge of the penalty area after being picked out by Romario Martin.

And Worcester stole the points on 88 minutes when Brown finished coolly after the home side caught Racing with a quick break up field.

Racing are next in action at home to Boldemere St Michaels on Saturday, March 19 with kick-off at 3pm at Townsend Meadow.
