LUKE Shearer’s goal helped Racing Club Warwick move top of the table with a 1-0 win against Easington Sports.

Shearer scored the only goal of the game at Townsend Meadow as the Racers secured a sixth successive victory in the league.

That came after Shearer also found the net in a 4-2 home win against Leicester Nirvana with Archie Hamp, Callum Carsley and substitute Matt Reed all on target.

The results mean Warwick sit top of the United Counties League Premier Division South table by a point with Racing the only side to maintain their unbeaten record after seven matches.

Following the win against Easington, Warwick boss Scott Easterlow said: “It wasn’t a game of great quality but if you can come away with a win, those results can go a long way come the end of the season.

“Overall it’s been a good weekend with six points achieved with everyone in the squad playing their part.”

Against Leicester, Hamp scored a superb opening goal on 10 minutes after cutting in from the left and blasting an unstoppable effort into the right corner of the goal from the edge of the penalty area.

And Warwick doubled their lead on 18 minutes when the ball ricocheted in off of Carsley from Cameron Ebbutt’s dangerous free-kick.

Nirvana reduced the deficit in first-half injury time when Kyle Tott stabbed the ball home from close range after a header at the back post hit the crossbar.

However, the home side restored their two-goal lead on 70 minutes after Shearer was played in by Jay Dilonga before rounding the keeper and finishing into an empty net.

And Warwick extended their lead in injury time as Reed finished at the second attempt before Sharif Ibrahim netted a late consolation for the visitors.

Racing travel to Cogenhoe United on Saturday, September 2 with kick-off at 3pm at Compton Park.
