FOOTBALL - Racing Club Warwick held again at Newport

CAMERON Ebbutt’s superb free-kick earned Racing Club Warwick a valuable point in a 1-1 draw away at Newport Pagnell Town.

Ebbutt equalised for Warwick with 20 minutes left to play after Nathan Olukami opened the scoring for Newport five minutes earlier at Willen Road.

And the result means the Racers remain second in the United Counties League Premier Division South table, level on points with leaders Wellingborough Town who have a game in-hand.

Warwick made a strong start as James Hancocks looped a volley inches over the crossbar before Harry Sawyer saw his attempted lob bounce agonisingly wide soon after.

And the visitors almost found a way through when Josh Willis delivered a cross to the back post only for Newport goalkeeper Lewis Patching to keep out Louis Monaghan’s header from close range.

However, Newport broke the deadlock on 65 minutes as Olukami headed Kieron Barnes’ cross from the right into the bottom left corner.

Racing restored parity just five minutes later when Ebbutt curled a sublime free-kick around the wall and into the right corner of the goal from 22-yards out.

And the visitors spurned a golden chance to win the game soon after as Willis fired over the bar from a cut back when well-placed inside the box.

Warwick are next in action away at Desborough Town on Saturday, February 10 with kick-off at 3pm at Waterworks Field.
