RACING Club Warwick began the season with a goalless draw against rivals Bedworth United.

Both teams squandered chances to win the game at Townsend Meadow.

The result means the Racers sit 15th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table.

Bedworth almost caught the home side out with a quickly-taken free-kick only for Ryan Moore to make a superb goalline clearance to deny Maxwell Ngbeken-Itota.

The Racers responded with a chance of their own as Ryan Andrews fired a shot across the face of goal which just evaded a yellow shirt at the back post.

And Moore then won a challenge inside the Bedworth penalty area only to lash a shot inches past the post from a tight angle.

The visitors spurned a golden chance to take the lead later in the first half as Sam Lomax pushed Louis Monaghan’s effort from 20-yards out to safety.

And Bedworth went close again after the break as Lomax tipped MacKenzie Lamb’s driven effort onto the post at full stretch low down to his right.

Lomax then made a superb double stop as he somehow kept out George Dunkley’s effort from point-blank range and palmed the loose ball to safety.

At the other end, Aaron Opoku saw his half volley saved by the feet of Bedworth goalkeeper Will Highland before Callum Coyle’s cross-shot went narrowly wide late on.

Racing Club Warwick are next in action against Coleshill Town on Monday, August 11 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Pack Meadow.
