LUKE Shearer scored a debut goal as Racing Club Warwick opened the 2023/24 season with a 2-2 draw against Desborough Town.
Shearer levelled for the Racers in the second half after Cameron Ebbutt had initially equalised before the break as Warwick twice came from behind at Townsend Meadow.
And the result means Warwick sit 12th in the United Counties League Premier Division South table.
The Racers almost made a dream start when a cross from the left found Josh Parsons in space only for the striker to head over the bar from six-yards out.
At the other end, Warwick goalkeeper Brad Catlow was equal to Liam Boath’s effort before Desborough took the lead on 15 minutes.
Simeone Okoro’s shot from distance was tipped onto the post by Catlow only for the rebound to fall to Kye Little who fired home.
However, Racing drew level on 17 minutes when Shearer teed up Ebbutt who drilled a superb low effort in off the left-hand post from 20-yards out.
Desborough were unlucky not to reclaim the lead when a shot hit the underside of the crossbar before Parsons smashed an effort against the bar at the other end from Shearer’s pass.
The visitors reclaimed the lead on 52 minutes when a ball from the right found William Russell who kept his cool to slide the ball past Catlow from 15-yards out.
However, Warwick drew level for a second time on 76 minutes when Shearer stooped low to head home Oliver Mulders’ cross from the left at the near post.
Warwick are next in action away at Bugbrooke St Michaels on Tuesday, August 1 with kick-off at 7.45pm at The Sett.
