RACING Club Warwick overturned a half-time deficit to return to winning ways with a 4-1 victory against Rugby Borough.

Warwick fell behind just before the half-hour mark only for goals from James Hancocks, Simeon Cobourne, Louis Monaghan and Rico Taylor to seal a come-from-behind win at Townsend Meadow.

The result means the Racers sit third in the United Counties League Premier Division South table with two matches left to play.

Rugby took the lead on 29 minutes when Gerard McGahey ran with the ball before firing a low shot into the bottom right corner from the edge of the penalty area.

However, Racing equalised four minutes after the break as Hancocks’ bobbled effort found the bottom right corner from Monaghan’s pass.

And the home side completed the turnaround on 74 minutes when Cobourne lashed a shot through the keeper’s legs at the back post from Monaghan’s cross from the right.

The Racers stretched their lead 10 minutes from time when the Rugby goalkeeper inexplicably passed the ball straight to Monaghan who sent a first time effort into the net from 20-yards out.

And substitute Taylor completed the scoring in the final minute with a finish from close range after Charlie Jones headed the ball into the scorer’s path at the back post.

Warwick are next in action away at Desborough Town on Tuesday, April 9 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Waterworks Field.
