RACING Club Warwick slipped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Stourport Swifts to remain bottom of the Midland Football League Premier Division table.
Despite creating the better chances and dominating the ball – Drew Canavan’s late strike snatched all three points for the visitors.
The result marked the Racers third consecutive defeat in the league and means they remain rooted to the foot of the table although they do have games in-hand on the teams above them.
The home side handed a debut to right-back Dan Kavanagh and welcomed Ricardo Dudley back into the side after Marshall Willock departed to Stourbridge.
And the Racers produced a display that defied their league position at Townsend Meadow with Hannibal Salami’s curling effort tipped over by Stourport keeper Dominic Richards before captain Charlie Jones fired over and headed wide shortly after.
The hosts continued to create chances when Josh Parsons and Josh O’Grady shot narrowly over the bar before Chris Mayuba fired wide to send the teams in level at the break.
Racing Club wasted more opportunities in the second-half and squandered their best chance when Costelus Lautaru was played through on goal only to slide his effort wide of the goal.
And the home side were made to rue that miss when Canavan curled a shot into the far corner to deny Racing a point which would have lifted them off the bottom of the table.
Elsewhere, the club’s under-23’s continued their fine form with a remarkable 5-4 win at Redditch Borough and host Redditch United this weekend.
Racing are next in action against Stone Old Alleynians tonight (Tuesday, December 7) with kick-off at 7:45pm at Kings Park.
