RACING Club Warwick saw their momentum halted following a 2-0 home defeat against Long Eaton United.

A brace from Evan Garrett condemned the Racers to their first defeat of the New Year at Townsend Meadow as the club’s four-game unbeaten run came to an end.

The result means Warwick sit fifth in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, one point clear of the chasing pack in the race for a top-five finish.

Long Eaton went close early on as Racers goalkeeper Tom Allsopp reacted sharply to turn Garrett’s near-post effort behind for a corner.

However, Garrett fired the visitors into the lead five minutes before the break when he volleyed a dropping ball into the left corner of the goal from 15-yards out.

Warwick thought they had drawn level after the break only for James Harding to see his touch and finish ruled out for offside.

The home side spurned a golden chance to equalise later in the second half as Dylan Barkers blazed a shot over the crossbar from six-yards out.

And Long Eaton made the Racers pay on 79 minutes as Garrett turned home a low ball into the box from the left from virtually on the goalline.

Racing Club Warwick travel to Basford United on Saturday, January 24 with kick-off at 3pm at Greenwich Avenue.
