RACING Club Warwick continued their perfect start to the New Year with a 2-0 victory at 10-man Coleshill Town.

The Racers took the lead courtesy of Callum Coyle’s goal just before the half-hour mark at Pack Meadow.

And substitute Louis Monaghan sealed the points from the penalty spot for the Racers deep into injury time after the home side had Harry Sweeney sent off.

The result means Warwick sit 10th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table.

Coleshill went close to an opener as Isaac Adegoke crossed for Harry Craven in the box only for Sam Lomax to superbly keep out the defender’s volley diving to his left.

And Lomax made another crucial stop soon after as he stood tall to deny Alex McSkeane from close range.

The home side remained on top with Lomax again called into action to push Jack Hallahan’s shot to safety as Ben Usher-Shipway’s powerful follow-up deflected off teammate Sam Tye and clipped the top of the crossbar.

Warwick broke the deadlock against the run of play on 27 minutes when Coyle lashed a sensational effort over Tyrese Warmington and into the right corner of the goal from 20-yards out.

Coleshill looked to respond after the break as Tye curled a shot straight at Lomax from the edge of the penalty area.

And Lomax then produced a stunning fingertip save as he tipped substitute Sam Evans’ swerving effort from 25-yards out behind for a corner diving to his right.

As the home side pushed for an equaliser at the death, Warwick countered as Coyle released Monaghan in-behind the Coleshill defence.

However, Sweeney pushed Monaghan in the pack as he went to shoot with the referee pointing to the spot and showing the former a straight red card.

Monaghan picked himself to score the resulting spot kick and secure the points six minutes into injury time.

Racing Club Warwick are next in action against West Bromwich Albion in the Birmingham Senior Cup on Tuesday, January 7 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Townsend Meadow.
