RACING Club Warwick saw their winless run on the road stretch to three matches following a 3-1 defeat at Wellingborough Town.

A brace from Will Jones put the home side in command before Danny Draper found the net shortly before half time to leave the Racers with a mountain to climb at the break at the Dog and Duck Ground.

Warwick scored a consolation goal late on as substitute Charlie Pye reduced the deficit while both teams finished the game with 10-men.

The result means the Racers sit 17th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, one point above the relegation zone.

Wellingborough broke the deadlock after just eight minutes when Jones pounced on Lathaniel Rowe-Turner’s loose touch and powered a shot past Sam Lomax at his near post.

And Jones doubled his tally for the game on 22 minutes as he headed in Charlie Green’s cross from the right at the back post despite the best efforts of Lomax.

The home side all but sealed the points four minutes before half time when Draper tapped in from close range after Lomax could only parry Isa Abraham’s initial effort.

Wellingborough had Jack O’Connor sent off just seven minutes into the second period after he made a cynical lunging challenge on a Warwick players as the visitors threatened to break.

However, Racers striker Tyrell Skeen-Hamilton also saw red 10 minutes from time following a collision with Green as the Wellingborough player cleared the ball.

Warwick reduced the deficit three minutes from time as substitute Pye headed Cameron Ebbutt’s corner from the right into the bottom right corner of the goal from 12-yards out.

Racing Club Warwick are next in action against Mickleover on Saturday, November 8 with kick-off at 3pm at Townsend Meadow.
