RACING Club Warwick suffered a 3-1 derby defeat against Coventry Sphinx and finished the game with 10-men.

A goal from Andre Williams briefly drew the Racers level only for a brace from Kyle Carey to ensure Warwick suffered a third straight league defeat at the Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena.

And Racing had Cameron Ebbutt sent off just past the hour mark, after he committed the foul which led to the home side’s penalty.

That came after the Racers lost 1-0 against Boldmere St Michaels in their last game before Christmas as Oliver West’s penalty proved decisive.

The results mean Warwick sit 13th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table.

Sphinx broke the deadlock on 24 minutes when Harry Wakefield met Carey’s pass at the back post.

However, the Racers equalised one minute after half time as Williams produced a tidy finish past Charlie Woods into the bottom corner.

Coventry reclaimed the lead on 53 minutes when Carey beat the offside trap and finished through the legs of Sam Lomax from Callum Woodward’s through ball.

And Sphinx won a penalty three minutes later as Ebbutt blocked Jordan Hayward’s goalbound effort with his hand and the referee pointed to the spot.

Worse was to come for the visitors as Ebbutt received a second yellow card for the offence to leave Warwick down to 10-men for the remainder of the fixture.

And Carey duly dispatched the resulting penalty into the bottom right corner to secure the points.

Racing Club Warwick are next in action against Rugby Town on Wednesday, January 1 with kick-off at 3pm at Townsend Meadow.
