RACING Club Warwick surrendered a half-time lead after conceding two late goals in a 3-1 defeat away at Basford United.

The Racers led at the break courtesy of James Hancocks’ goal just past the half-hour mark at Greenwich Avenue.

However, Jordan Hallam netted a second-half hat-trick for the home side to turn the game on its head.

The result means Warwick sit seventh in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, one point outside of the play-off places.

Racing broke the deadlock on 31 minutes when Hancocks jinked his way into the penalty area and drove a low effort across goal into the bottom right corner.

And Warwick thought they had doubled their lead later in the first half when James Harding turned home Jack Edwards’ initial header from close range only for the referee to rule the goal out for a foul by the latter.

However, Basford equalised on 57 minutes as Hallam scored from the penalty spot after the referee penalised Ryan Moore for a foul on Connor Dimaio in the box.

And the home side completed the turnaround three minutes from time when Hallam lashed a first time effort into the left corner of the goal from the edge of the penalty area after Hancocks miscontrolled a dropping ball.

Basford sealed the points in injury time as Hallam completed his hat-trick with a finish into an empty net from Nyle Blake’s square ball with Warwick goalkeeper Tom Allsopp stranded.

Racing Club Warwick are next in action AFC Rushden and Diamonds on Saturday, January 31 with kick-off at 3pm at Hayden Road.
