ASHLEY Sammons scored from inside his own half as Racing Club Warwick beat Long Eaton United 4-2 in a thriller.

An extraordinary strike from Sammons completed the turnaround after Tolani Omotola’s goal cancelled out Liam Loughlan’s opener at Townsend Meadow.

And Max McNulty’s effort put the Racers in command before Ruben Freeman saw red for the home side nine minutes from time.

However, substitute Andre Williams sealed the points for Warwick while James Shaw netted a consolation for the visitors in injury time.

The result means the Racers sit eighth in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, three points outside of the play-off places.

Long Eaton broke the deadlock on 15 minutes when Loughlan curled a free-kick into the bottom left corner from 20-yards out.

However, the home side equalised just before half time when James Hancocks’ long throw found Omotola in the box and the striker showed great strength to hold off the defender and finish past the goalkeeper.

And Sammons then spotted Long Eaton goalkeeper Ben Allsop off his line and sent a sensational effort over his head and into the net from just inside his own half on 56 minutes.

The home side extended their lead on 73 minutes when McNulty latched onto Martin Slevin’s ball in-behind the Long Eaton defence and lashed a shot past Allsop.

Warwick defender Freeman then received a straight red card for a challenge on Ryan Campbell-Gordon.

However, substitute Williams kept himself onside before poking a shot past Allsop on 85 minutes to seal the points.

Long Eaton reduced the deficit in injury time when Shaw finished at the back post but it proved only a consolation as the Racers returned to winning ways.

Racing Club Warwick are next in action against Anstey Nomads on Saturday, December 14 with kick-off at 3pm at Cropston Road.
