CALLY Stewart’s goal helped Leamington earn another point in the quest for a play-off place following a 1-1 draw with Coalville Town.

Stewart levelled the game on 35 minutes after Layton Ndukwu opened the scoring early on for Coalville at the Your Co-Op Community Stadium.

And the result means Leamington sit fifth in the Southern League Premier Central table, one point clear of the chasing pack in the race for a play-off place.

The Brakes had the game’s first chance as Rob Evans saw his powerful volley from distance deflect narrowly wide of the post.

However, Coalville broke the deadlock on nine minutes when Layton Ndukwu curled a free-kick into the net from the edge of the penalty area after Josh Quaynor fouled the lively Terell Pennant.

Brakes goalkeeper Callum Hawkins then tipped Tim Berridge’s low drive around the post before Stewart inadvertently deflected Tyrone Barnett’s goalbound header over the crossbar at the other end.

And Leamington equalised on 35 minutes as Stewart bundled home his 20th goal of the season despite colliding with Coalville goalkeeper Paul White.

Both Ewan Williams and Evans saw efforts blocked behind as the Brakes went closest to finding a winner with neither side able to carve out a clear-cut chance in the second period.

Leamington travel to promotion rivals Redditch United on Saturday, March 23 with kick-off at 3pm at the Valley Stadium.
