CALLY Stewart’s second-half penalty rescued a point for Leamington as the Brakes battled to a 1-1 draw with AFC Telford United.

Stewart’s successful spot kick on 79 minutes drew the Brakes level after Byron Moore opened the scoring early on for Telford at the Your Co-Op Community Stadium.

And the result means Leamington sit eighth in the Southern League Premier Central table, one point outside of the play-off places.

Telford took the lead on nine minutes when Moore fired a low effort past Callum Hawkins after pouncing on Dan Meredith’s loose touch in the penalty area.

And the visitors went close to a second goal soon after as Gibraltar international Reece Styche curled a free-kick narrowly wide from just outside the penalty area.

The Brakes almost found an equaliser shortly before the interval as Brandon Hall made a flying save to keep out Josh Quaynor’s powerful shot from 25-yards out.

Veteran striker Tyrone Barnett then saw a header cleared off the line by Ellis Myles before Ricardo Dinanga raced clear at the other end only to drag his shot wide when one-on-one with Hawkins.

Chances were at a premium in the second period before the referee pointed to the spot after adjudging Sam Whittall to have fouled Stewart in the box.

And Stewart picked himself up to fire the resulting penalty into the bottom right corner of the goal as the game finished all square.

Leamington are next in action away at Stamford on Saturday, November 4 with kick-off at 3pm at the Zeeco Stadium.
