Goulas and Serban on target but Spartans Seconds fall to debut defeat

Ben Tyler 8th Oct, 2019

NEWLY formed Leamington Spartans Seconds tasted defeat on their debut in Warwickshire Basketball Association Division Two.

Spartans made the trip to Nuneaton Predators to kick off the season, where they impressed in the early stages after a slow start.

Standing out in particular were Panos Goulas and Dragos Serban, who scored 34 points between them overall, although their efforts were not enough to prevent Leamington from trailing at the half-way stage.

The Predators had a talisman of their own in Sean Maudsley, who earned 18 points and made his presence known throughout the final two quarters of the game.

After falling further behind in quarter three, Spartans went on to win the fourth, though their efforts proved too little, too late when walking away with a 69-48 defeat.

Spartans’ second XI were in action on Wednesday night at Westwood Rhinos, while the first team kick off their Division One campaign with a trip to newly promoted Rugby Rage on Friday (8.15pm).
