Harbury pull off dominant league win against Redditch

Leamington Editorial 17th Oct, 2017   0

RUGBY UNION: HARBURY pulled off a dominant win away from home against a lackluster Redditch side.

Harbury scored nine tries in their latest Midlands 4 West (South) contest which saw them defeat Redditch 5-53.

The win ensured Harbury remain unbeaten from their opening three league games, and leaves them sitting pretty in third place.

Despite the win there were some injuries Harbury picked up. No.8 Matt Knight and flanker Ricky Beardsmore are both likely to be out for several weeks.

It took Harbury just five minutes to open their account when Steve Alford registered Harbury’s first try of the afternoon.

Four more tries were added before half time with Will Godwin, Paul Evans, Steve Alford and Ricky Beardsmore all touching down while Mark Anderson added one conversion to gift the visitors a 27-0 lead at half time.

Redditch gained more possession in the second half and did cross over for an unconverted try at the start of the half.

But Harbury responded with four tries of their own – Beardsmore scored a second before going off injured.

Harbury are next in action this Saturday against unbeaten league leaders Stoke Old Boys. The match at Waterloo Fields starts at 3pm.

Elsewhere Harbury’s second team won their second fixture of the season 21-5 away at Old Laurentians.
