CRICKET: HUNNINGHAM’S 1st XI won an important home game to lift them into eighth in the Warwickshire Cricket League Division Two, 36 points clear of bottom club Old Edwardians.

It proved to be a crucial contest as the result also saw Hunningham leapfrog their opponents from Saturday, Sheldon Marlborough.

Hunningham lost the toss and were asked to bowl first as a spell of aggressive bowling from Mundy helped the home side settle into the game.

Tidy spells from Maskell and Bradbrook saw Sheldon Marlborough crumble to 105 all out from 31 overs .

Hunningham skipper Charles Wale backed up the bowlers at first slip by taking five catches.

In reply, Hunningham looked on-edge with the bat.

But Michael Cook and Bradbrook saw the home team to their target for the loss of just six wickets.

2ND XI

Elsewhere Hunningham’s 2nd XI also faired well with a winning draw away at Bedworth’s 3rd team to consolidate their position at the top of Division Nine East.

Hunningham batted first and scored 218/5 with Holford (41) and Russell (40) providing the bulk of runs from an individual point of view.

In reply, Bedworth lost wickets at regular intervals with only Khunti showing any restrictions by posting 66.

As a result, Bedworth batted for a lengthy period to edge out a draw for the loss of seven wickets.
