BOXING: TEENAGER Morgan Ansell is in for a couple of sleepless nights.

The talented Clearys boxer will jet off to Paris this weekend to fight in an England vs France dual.

Ansell, who lives in Rugby, will represent Team England in the 48kg category and is one of a ten-strong English team hoping to get one over their old rivals from across the channel.

Speaking to The Observer, the talented teenager said she hopes a tough training schedule will pay dividends come fight night on Saturday.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to it – I have a countdown clock in preparation!

“I’ve had to work hard to get to this stage. Attending development camps has helped massively.

“There’s often one camp every month in the north and south – I try to attend as many as I can.

“We were in Tamworth recently, that week involved five days of training in Clearys before two days of training camp work and then repeating that schedule.”

The Rugby High student has received tremendous support from her school, and she admitted being able to spend her free periods working on personal training has helped add to her strength.

“I have my own personal training instructor to build up my strength,” said Ansell.

“Time management is key, and my school has been fantastic in helping my achieve my goals.

“They allow me to complete my personal training sessions during what would be free periods. They’re supportive and helping me a lot.”

Saturday will mark the first time Morgan has flown out of the country with Team England.

Having never fought her opponent before, the Clearys boxer is anticipating a tough opening round – but she hopes some early judgement will go a long way in helping her win.

She said: “Normally I lose the first round as I spend that working out what my opponent does and how they react.

“I don’t know what to expect from my opponents in France, but I’m going to do my best.

“My goal is to reach the Olympics. There are so many girls involved in boxing now, it’s great competition to have.”
