Leamington Editorial 13th Sep, 2017   0

CRICKET: KENILWORTH rounded off their Warwickshire Cricket League Division One campaign with a home win against Kings Heath.

After losing the toss, Kenilworth were invited to bat first – and with rain around, the visitors struck an early blow.

At 9/1, the players were forced off the pitch due to the forecast rain arriving.

A huge effort by the players and groundsmen allowed the game to re-start, albeit now a 37 overs-per-side encounter.

Magafas and Chris Prophet put on 43 for the third wicket, before Prophet was dismissed for 25.

Useful contributions came from Henry Curran (16) and Jorjeet Singh (12), before both were run out.

But Magafas kept his head, he went on make a superb innings of 84, his knock included eight fours.

Kenilworth finished on 162/8.

The visitors reply never got going as opening bowler Steve Rhodes took two early wickets.

Rhodes finished an excellent personal season with two wickets for 18 runs while Pat Howard took one wicket for 11 runs.

With Kings Heath on 63/4 in the 21st over, the teams were forced off again – this time with the rain too heavy.

The game was called off soon after. Saheed (18) and Khan (12) were the only double figure scores.

Kenilworth won the game by 25 runs on the D/L system.
