Kenilworth slip up against strugglers Bronze

CRICKET: KENILWORTH hosted bottom side Bronze on Saturday for a crucial Warwickshire League Division One fixture.

Asked to bat first, Bronze made a steady start as the opening pair put on 44 for the first wicket.

Handyman (47) fell just short of his 50 as the visitors were well placed early on at 108/2.

But two quick wickets tipped the balance of the game in Kenilworth’s favour as Bronze were reduced to 110/4.




With nine overs left, Bronze were at 156/7 – and Kenilworth quickly took the remaining three wickets as the visitors were bowled out for 186. .

Kenilworth were in a hurry to chase down the runs in their reply.


Opening pair Adie Sellar and Pete Magafas putting on 82 for the first wicket in only 18 overs.

Together with several extras, Sellar (31) and Magafus (23) helped Kenilworth make a strong start.

Once the openers were out, the home side then collapsed from 82/0 to 105/6 after 30 overs.

Two more wickets fell to reduce Kenilworth to 136/8, and then 138 all out inside 41 overs.

Kenilworth picked up five league points for their efforts.

2nd XI

Kenilworth’s second team travelled to Solihull to face Solihull Municipal.

Municipal were asked to bat first, but seamer Ryan Bull struck in the first over as the home side stood at 6/1.

But the early loss didn’t affect Municipal as opener Bissett (51) and Lewis (39) added 90 for the second wicket in eighteen overs.

A middle order collapse reduced the home side from 109/4 to 162/7.

Chris Beach, Charlie Stranks, Tom Skinner, and Ryan Bull picked up two wickets a piece as Kenilworth bowled Municipal out for 198.

Kenilworth also lost an early wicket as – after a brief stop for rain – they struggled to build any solid partnerships.

Only Elliott Sorrell (28), Ben Maney (14), and Chris Beach (19) hit double figures.

Kenilworth eventually dug in to earn a losing draw, ending on 110/8, as they picked up six points for their efforts.
